Here at last

HELLO!!!!!! (finally)
Well im here at last. Train to London, tube to airport and bus to
terminal went completely fine (suprisingly). Got to the check in desk
to find the flight was over booked! Typical, anyway everything went
very smoothly, flight was ok, didnt get much sleep but then i havent
slept properly for since thursday night (paranoid of insecty things).
So, we arrive in Bangkok airport, had to queue to get passport stamped
and stuff but that was fine, although very warm. Then we found our
transfer to the hotel, again no problems, then we went to the
car......
Imagine climbing inside your over when cooking a sunday roast!!!!!!!!!
So hot! Then the car drove us to the hotel. I have never seen such
driving in my life! Cars overtake no matter what lane they are in,
never obey the turning signs, is absolute maddness!

So we check into the hotel, pretty swanky, and go to our rooms (all
airconditioned!!) then decided to find somewhere to eat. At the end of
the road from the hotel, is 2 huge shopping malls, so we went into one
of them and found a restaurant. We had the choice of Italian, Chinese,
Japanese and Thai, oh and chips! had a mini feast between us.
Afer our food we went outside to explore, decided to try to find Koh
San road, decided to get a Tuk Tuk, realised how much we value our
lives!!!!
For those of you who have never seen a Tuk Tuk imagine a scooter with
3 wheels and a roof! No seat belts, no doors, nothiing to hold you in
what so ever!!!! and those guys drive FAST!!!!
Arrived in Koh san road and eventually decided to get a drink in a
bar, only to find ourselfs sitting with 10 irish people! and no more
than 3 were travelling together, they all just kind of found each
other!
Tried to get an early night, just about to get a shower when a note appeared
under my door
"AMANDA LUNN YOUR MOTHER CALLED, PLEASE RETURN HER CALL" so i had to
go out into torrential rain to buy a phonecard and stand on the street
and call her. Parents!
Today, we checked out of our hotel, we booked a guest house on the net
lastnight, so tried to find it today. Impossible! Ended up stuck in a
downpour (it has rained every day since we got here) hiding out in a
bookshop, then couldnt find our guesthouse, so i stayed in a bar while
leanne went to the information point, apparantly that guesthouse
doesnt exist, and the one with the closest sounding name looked a bit
dodgey. So we tried to find a bed for the night. I found one,
downstairs were traveller types lying on sofa things reading books,
really chilled out, great i thought. We checked in, paid out 350 baht
(abouy 5 pounds between us) and found what looks like a converted
prison cell with a hose pipe (thats the shower incase you wondered)!
We decided to excape for the rest of the afternoon, hanging out in
internet cafes and we will find a bar later.
Tomorrow we head to Cambodia. We need to get a bus at 6am, for about 5
hours to the border, then a tuk tuk accross the border, then another
bus (this one may end up nearly 10 hours) to Siam Reap, where we have
booked a really gorgeous looking hostel called Jasmine house (or
something close to that, you can see it at www.hostelworld.com).
We are hoping this works well as we have heard many bad story.
So Bangkok in summery, very hot, you cant go anywhere without people
hassleing you to buy something or get in their tuk tuk, when you do
get in they insist on taking you the wrong way via an information
center (or tailor or jewlers i hear) they are obviously on some kind
of commission, once inside the info centre, they will try their best
to scare you into buying tickets off them.
To be honest, im having a pretty good time, i havnt been sunburnt
(something i usually manage to do on my first day), or badly drunk, or
lost or anything really. Only problem is that everything is soooooooo
cheap! i have bought shoes, sunglesses, trousers and a new huge
rucksak and we only got here sunday!!! I have to keep telling myself
how heavy my bag already is!
well thats all really
oh one more thing, we were sat in this italins/japanese/ thai/etc
restaurant when i noticed the song being played, a techno version of
"oh Mandy"
Even in Thailand i cant escape that song!!!!!
